A Cambridgeshire architect chose a high performance timber building system for the construction of his seven-bedroom luxury eco-home.
David Cousans specified Excel Building Industries’ EVT structure for the three-storey home, comprising a framework of engineered timber I-beams and insulated with Warmcel 500 recycled newspaper insulation.
The 240mm deep external walls are cedar clad, delivering a U-value of 0.132W/m2K, while the roof features a 300mm deep EVT construction. I-beams with spans up to 12m were also used in the house’s intermediate floors, negating the need for additional supporting pillars.
Timber windows and pre-finished softwood flooring were installed, along with solar panels and an underground rainwater collection tank.
