Arbor Forest Products says its new online training academy for the timber trade will give users “a greater competitive edge”.

The company, which is the importing division of Howarth Timber, says the aim of the academy is to help participants – either its staff or its customers’ employees – gain a wider commercial knowledge of the industry, as well as better technical confidence.

Initially, the training will comprise three commercially-based e-learning modules covering both product and technical training. Each module takes about an hour to complete and can be allocated, viewed and monitored by operational managers.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student is awarded a RIBA-accredited certificate and qualification.

Jason Ostler, sales director at Arbor Forest Products, said: “Traditionally, timber learning courses have always gone into far too technical a level for staff, with little reference to the commercial element of timber trading.

“Our courses have been written very much with the merchant trade in mind and we are confident the contents will provide their staff with a good knowledge and overview of timber as a natural commercial product.”
