Andersons Ltd has applied to build a new 2,450m2 facility in Workington, Cumbria.

The Carlisle-based timber merchant, which also has outlets in Dumfries and Kilmarnock in Scotland, plans to develop a vacant site near the Northside roundabout, which is owned by Allerdale Borough Council, to provide a warehouse including a trade area and showroom.

Warehousing and storage is set to account for nearly 2,000m2 of the site, with retail and showroom space taking up 343m2.

Open six days a week, the development will also create 15 jobs, with Andersons noting that “the building has been positioned on the site to allow for further possible future development for storage or expansion of services”.

A transport study attached to the planning application indicates that Andersons expects nearly 300 trade and retail customers to visit the new site each working day, alongside six freight deliveries, with around 200 customers expected at weekends.

The showroom is to be used to display kitchen layouts that are available from Andersons, which also sells cut timber, doors, windows and flooring.
