The Yateley-based company has set up Amerind Panel Products Ltd as a separate business and will source a range of panel products from around the world. For more than 20 years Amerind Ltd has focused on veneers and hardwood, while also sourcing small amounts of plywood from Amerind Group mills in Ghana.

“We felt that the market has been stagnant for some time in terms of new companies entering the panel products importer/distribution sector and our market survey findings showed that customers were looking for a credible alternative to the current status quo,” said Amerind director Mark Cheriton.

Mr Cheriton said market conditions were right for Amerind to become more heavily involved within the UK plywood and panel products market place due to current and forecasted levels of public and private sector building activity.

“The business aims to be focused on the general trading, timber and builders merchant and specialist end-user segments of the market,” he added.

Products will be imported via Amerind’s existing quay facilities at Tilbury. Sales and distribution will be handled at Amerind’s Yateley site, with extra staff being recruited.
