Canadian softwood and certified plywood from South America have helped boost sales at timber importer Premier Forest Products.

The Newport-based company said it had experienced record sales in the past year, as well as adding nine members of staff to its sales team during the period.

“The industry has been through a tough year with many of our competitors disappointed by their current sales performance,” said director Nigel Williams. “At Premier we are lucky that we seem to have hit upon a winning formula, and sales figures are at their highest yet.”

He said business growth had forced the company to recruit new staff, including Neil Rooks, Lee Cramp and Ian Burns.

Premier’s long-term objective is to become the UK’s largest independent importer of timber products, while in the short-term it is seeking to achieve a turnover of £100m within the next five years.

The company will shortly be releasing its financial results.
