Panel products importer Altripan UK Ltd says it achieved a record month in April, with invoiced sales totalling more than £1m.

The Ledbury-based operation said the achievement was all the more impressive since the current situation with credit insurance meant it was unable to trade with about 40% of its customer base.

“January, February, March and April have been really good months,” said Altripan UK director Andy Simpson. “In a more normal month we would turn over £600,000.”

He said the sales were fantastic for a company set up only 18 months ago and in the current economic environment. Mr Simpson reported particular success with FSC-certified elliotis pine plywood.

Altripan UK has also been supplying other importers, whose own product had not yet arrived in the UK.

The company is looking into changing credit insurers, which may free up cover to trade with more customers. It is also looking into The Timber Trade Federation’s due diligence system.
