Merchant Alsford Timber has opened a new branch in Hailsham, taking its chain to 17.

The leasehold site at Diplocks Way – comprising 12,000ft² of covered area and a yard of more than 7,000ft² – employs five and stocks timber, panel products, joinery and accessories. Branch manager is Peter Hodgeson who joins from a competitor.

The opening is hoped to be the first of several during 2001 and follows the refurbishment of the Worthing, Mortlake and Brighton branches last year.

Development manager Tony Landamore said: ‘We have been concentrating on refurbishng sites, now we are looking to open new branches. We have identified certain areas where there is potential for a new timber merchant but land and premises are not easy to come by in the south-east.’
