Italian timber firm Alpi Group has secured Forest Stewardship Council certification for its use of poplar in the production of veneers.

Alpi uses poplar to manufacture multi-laminar wood veneers, and said the certificate meant it could now give peace of mind to its worldwide customer base with a recognised certification trademark.

In October 2007, Alpi, which also produces plywood, rotary cut veneer and sawn timber, announced it had reached an agreement with the Tropical Forest Trust to implement best practice principles and sustainable forest management techniques at its plantations in Cameroon.

“Alpi is taking a further step forward in its environment strategy and is clearly demonstrating its commitment to achieving excellence in the use of natural resources,” the company said.
