Frome-based AJ Charlton & Sons Ltd opted to go back in time to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

It used Shire horses and a wagon to deliver samples of its home-grown oak flooring from its sawmills in Buckland Down to the village hall in Buckland Dinham two miles away on Golden Jubilee Monday. There it offered rides on the decorated wagon throughout the day.

Sales and marketing director Michael Charlton explained: ‘As a Royal Warrant holder to Queen Elizabeth II we wanted to keep traditional values alive.

‘Nearly 100 years ago my grandfather celebrated the coronation of George V in much the same way with horses and a cart decorated with flowers. We felt it was appropriate to do something similar and everyone seemed to enjoy it.’
