Ainsworth Lumber Co is set to increase its OSB production by 25% with the US$193m acquisition of Voyageur Panel Ltd in Barwick, Ontario.
Chairman and CEO Brian Ainsworth said it was less costly to acquire a mill than build a new one and that Voyageur was an excellent fit with the company’s engineered wood marketing strategy.
The acquisition of Voyageur, which is partly owned by Boise and Abitibi-Consolidated, will bring Ainsworth’s OSB production to two billion ft2 a year.
