The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) reports an unprecedented response to its sixth Southeast Asia & Greater China Convention. More than 650 delegates attended the one-day event – themed Using Hardwoods to Humanise Interior Space – in Guangzhou this month.

Open to Chinese and South-east Asian traders, manufacturers and architects, the event was also attended by US hardwood exporters, who have seen their Chinese exports rise from US$41m in 1999 to more than US$73m in 2000.

UK speakers included Rupert Oliver, editor of hardwoodmarkets.com, who talked about global forest certification, and John Wadsworth of Intermark International, who reviewed the outlook for hardwood markets.
