An experimental ‘green’ home project has used Accoya modified wood to construct the largest private deck built to date in North America.
The Green Life Smart Life home on the Rhode Island coast is designed to show how families can make sustainable lifestyle choices without compromising the environment’s needs.
The use of Accoya has contributed to the project’s LEED-H points in the materials and resources category. LEED is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes.
The home achieved an official rating by the US Green Building Council and is the first LEED-H Gold Home in Rhode Island.
“Accoya fitted with our vision of responsible design and construction,” said home owner Kimberley Hageman. “Though building green cost us about 13% more based on costs for certain products, we believe it will pay back in the end with a home that is energy efficient, durable and healthy.”
