Titan Wood has signed an exclusive agreement with German timber trader Roggemann Group from Bremen after 18 months of negotiation.

A group of nearly 50 sales staff from the Roggemann Group has received training at Titan Wood’s Arnhem facility where they saw the product in use in joinery, cladding, decking and other applications.

The team was also shown summaries of the extensive research into acetylated wood, and given a tour of the pilot production plant and the new commercial-scale production facility which is nearing completion.

Bert Kattenbroek, sales and marketing manager at Titan Wood, said that early in 2005 the Roggemann business development team established workgroups with leading window manufacturers using Accoya.

“The first test production was very promising, demonstrating significant benefits compared to other species, including reduced wastage and significant cost savings during manufacturing,” he said.

“The work also resulted in product endorsements from a leading paint manufacturer, giving life-long guarantees for end users,” he added.

Carl Jastram, business development and purchasing manager for Roggemann, said he could see Accoya, which is produced from consistently available, 100% sustainable wood, replacing large amounts of the tropical wood currently used in joinery, decking and cladding applications.

“We believe that demand from our German customers could realistically exceed 10,000m3 within a year, and more once the end users become familiar with the many performance benefits of Accoya,” he added.
