Accoya is less susceptible to termite attack than untreated timber, according to research undertaken in the US.
The tests, carried out at Mississippi and Louisiana State universities on behalf of Accoya manufacturer Titan Wood, found that the acetylated timber had 20 times the resilience of untreated wood against the most destructive of termites. The testing followed the protocols of the American Wood Protection Association.
Titan Wood’s director of production management, Hal Stebbins, said the company was pleased with the results and planned to carry out further testing.
“We have always known that Accoya was a strong and durable product offering pest resilience without the need for toxic treatments,” he said.
