TimberLINK carries around 100,000 tonnes of timber a year from the ports of Ardrishaig, Campeltown, Portavadie and Sandbank to ABP‘s Port of Troon. From the latter the material is forwarded to local processors.

According to the company, the sea freight service saves around 8,000 lorry journeys on roads between Argyll and Ayrshire.

ABP’s manager at Troon Stuart Cresswell said timberLINK was one of the port’s “most important business ventures.”

As well as benefiting the environment by taking lorries off the road, we’re in a position to facilitate and support this fundamental Scottish industry.

Derek Nelson of the Forestry Commission Scotland said timberLINK has provided a “valuable solution for transportation of timber.

ABP short-sea ports port director Matt Jukes said the company was keen to promote waterborne transport.

“TimberLINK is a perfect example of how short-sea shipping, through tailored solutions “can benefit a wider range of different parties.”
