The UK’s tallest OMS stretch hooding machine has been installed at Sheffield-based timber merchant McClure Timber Supplies.

Package and pallet securement technology specialist Gordian Strapping supplied the tall pallet stretch hooder onto McClure’s packaging line. The OMS machne stands 6.3m high.

Gordian Strapping said a high degree of engineering knowledge was needed to solve the pack security and presentation issues faced by McClure, while minimising downtime and space use.

An OMS IS43 was fitted off the conveyor centre line because of space restrictions and incorporated a specially designed shuttle conveyor to enable the packages to be positioned correctly for hooding.

“The benefits were many: greater pack security with the product now secured firmly to the pallet, no sideways movement in transport, the ability to hood packs in line straight after the baler, improved visible pack presentation and ultimately less returns and less damage,” said a Gordian Strapping spokesperson.
