Cobb Bros Ltd of Poole, Dorset has invested ‘several hundred thousand pounds’ in new warehousing, racking and handling systems to cope with a surge in sales of worktops.

The company, which was established in 1963 to manufacture kitchens for local homeowners, carries the UK range of Duropal worktops.

For years it took a small stock of worktops for limited distribution, but soon discovered that when the service was coupled to the skills of its highly trained workforce, demand grew. Worktop sales now account for 60% of turnover, justifying the investment, and the company has set up a division – the Worktop Warehouse – to service demand.

Cobb Bros spokesperson Mike Rendall said: “Prior to building the new warehouse we had worktops stacked in alleyways and in the car park, but now we have dedicated racking and can easily access everything.”

The company can cut to length, butt and scribe corner joints and apply specialist edging such as PVC/ABS.

Worktops are available in a variety of woods with matching or contrasting laminate and solid surfaces.
