More than 80% of the enlarged exhibitor space at Woodmex 2004 has been sold prior to the October 10-13 show.

Following 2002’s “sell out” event, the organisers have moved the biennial woodworking machinery exhibition from hall 5 at the NEC, Birmingham to halls 17-20 which have a spacious and flexible layout plus increased catering and rest area facilities.

The show is also taking place a month earlier than usual, giving exhibitors extra time to pursue enquiries before the Christmas shut-down.

This year’s event will see increased participation by suppliers of wood and other raw materials as well as equipment for truss, rafter, pallet and packaging production, complementing the traditional machinery, tooling and services exhibits.

Exhibition manager John Southam said: “It makes sense for timber suppliers to present their products and services at Woodmex because all visitors use wood either for manufacturing or, in the case of the growing number of visitors from builders and timber merchants, for reselling.”

He said the expansion also reflects current trends in the use of timber – for example the growth of timber frame housing, continued expansion of markets for decking and garden products, and new legislation requiring investment in technology for pallet and packaging production.
