Unexceptional growth is forecast for the trade woodcare market between now and 2004 in a new report from Palmer Market Research.

It predicts that the sector will be 10% larger in 2004 than it was in 1999, suggesting that the market will only grow in line with inflation over the four-year period.

Particular areas of growth forecast will be medium and high build stains and opaque wood finishes. Opaque wood finishes have grown 50% over the two years covered by this report.

The only downside highlighted is that the average per litre price for stains, opaque wood finishes and fencing treatments has been falling.

Brand recognition among specifiers is said to be a close fought match between Crown Trade, Cuprinol, ICI Dulux Trade and Ronseal, all of which were known by 80% or more of the specifiers interviewed.
