Portable bandsaw specialist Wood-Mizer lined up more than half a dozen debuts for the forestry section at Ligna.

The centrepiece of the display were its muscular new ‘industrial’ mills, the LT50 and LT60. The latter are the company’s biggest machines to date and were billed as a ‘very significant development’.

‘The bigger LT60 allows the operator to cut logs up to 8.5m long and 91cm in diameter,’ said spokesperson Brian Hind. ‘Before, they needed bed extensions to handle such material’.

The company also showed a new twin-blade stationary edger, hydraulic clamping system, a bigger sawing head, a new longer bed for its saws, its just-launched ‘DoubleHard’ long-life blades and remote operation for its all electric models. The latter allows the user to saw without accompanying the carriage and the remote operator station includes setworks, providing programmable, automatic board thickness setting.
