Portable bandsaw giant Wood-Mizer has moved its UK and Irish headquarters to Kent and appointed a new manager.

James Andrews takes over at Wood-Mizer UK from Peter and Christine Burn, who previously ran operations from Yorkshire. Mr Andrews was the company’s first European representative in 1987 and brought the portable mills to the notice of timber processors after the hurricane of that year.

He will operate from his own forestry/sawmilling business at Hever which produces locally-grown oak for joiners and cabinet makers and for finished products.

Wood-Mizer believes the customer focus of Mr Andrews’s business can be applied to the management of its British operation, resulting in improved service and support for sawmill customers.

The new location is also expected to improve logistics in terms of deliveries from the company’s European manufacturing centre and provide better stockholding and engineering facilities.
