Stoke-on-Trent College is responding to the national shortage of skilled people in construction through investment in wood machining equipment.

It recently received a £60,000 donation of machinery including a hi-tech multi rip saw from Weinig, which will be used to train students from around the country.

The German-based firm will send its customers and employees to the college, which has one of the largest construction departments in the country, for training.

The college has previously invested £100,000 in new wood machinery following a successful skills challenge bid. Woodwork lecturer Alan Handley said: ‘We hope to further develop our links with Weinig and other world leaders in the industry.’
