A Weeke BP145 CNC machining centre is filling a vacuum of skilled labour and allowing an Irish joinery firm to complete its bespoke orders.

The machine is enabling AD Canning Joinery of County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, to meet short lead times and say ‘yes’ to complex commissions.

Canning, which produces high-quality joinery items including doorsets, window systems, stairs and conservatories, had been threatened with losing its bespoke non-standard, non-stock work because of the lack of skilled workers.

Its Weeke machine is a unique specification with an on-line video camera transmitting pictures to the operator. It also features an extended bed for stair treads and a special toolchanger for complex profiles and joints.
