German timber frame home manufacturer WeberHaus sees 2006 as the “turning point” for its offering of prefabricated timber systems in the UK market.

The company, which has built more than 45,000 houses in Europe during the past 45 years, believes new Building Regulations, particularly Part L, are helping create an ideal climate for its closed panel timber homes.

And to show Interbuild visitors what it could do, a video of a house being erected in just one day ran continually on its stand.

WeberHaus set up a UK operation in Brighton last year, but it is now based at building contractor William Verry Ltd in Redbourn.

WeberHaus UK sales manager Chris Drury said William Verry’s established record in construction gave WeberHaus the opportunity to offer a turnkey package, including the various build processes, such as concrete foundations.

And William Verry has a steady stream of people approaching it with building plots – something WeberHaus had been struggling to find.

The two companies had already successfully teamed up in the government’s Design for Manufacture competition. Their entry has been chosen to build 102 units in an unusual S-shape at Aylesbury.

Although WeberHaus has not yet completed a house in Britain, Mr Drury said about five projects were at a very serious stage, while one developer at Interbuild enquired about the possibility of building 400 units.
