Children from a local primary school were given an insight into manufacturing and the workings of industrial machinery at Wadkin Ultracare’s Leicester factory recently.
The visit was part of Wadkin Ultracare‘s involvement in the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) Technology Challenge – an initiative it has supported for the past three years.
The company’s technical manager, Steve Foster, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to bring children into industry and for them to start to gain an understanding of what British industry has to offer. In previous years our partner schools have created throughfeed planer moulder machines and CNC routers which is superb.”
Wadkin Ultracare has also contributed £300 worth of equipment and software to the school and a company representative has helped pupils build working models of the machines or processes they viewed.

The MTA challenge culminates in a Technology Day at Leicester University where some 40 schools from the region display their working models.
