Wadkin Group’s UltraCare division has completed a 15-month turnkey project to deliver an integrated production line at BSW Timber‘s Fort William mill.

Leicester-based UltraCare realised BSW’s plans to increase machined timber output by sourcing a variety of machinery and training sawmilling staff on the new technology.

UltraCare’s involvement allowed BSW managers to concentrate on running the sawmilling business.

The £1m plus project, managed without alliances to specific machinery manufacturers, involved delivery of a Mouldex planer, handling equipment from System TM and DCS extraction facilities. Other machine suppliers included Strapex, ITS, Newco, Brokhuis and IES.

UltraCare conducted a series of training programmes to ensure safe operation of equipment and has secured a long-term maintenance support contract with BSW. An ongoing relationship between the two companies will see UltraCare looking to develop new ideas and proposals to assist the sawmiller’s business needs.

BSW’s investment in its Easi-Edge valued added timber production is designed to capitalise on growing demand for machined wood, especially in the construction industry.
