Next year’s W10 Working with Wood show will not be co-located with Interbuild because organisers of the popular woodworking technology show feel benefits didn’t materialse when the two shows tried to co-ordinate in 2008.
W10 exhibition director John Smith-Bodden told TTJ that he wanted the exhibition to focus on an intimate wood audience and not to focus too heavily on the building sector to the detriment of the furniture making audience.
“We were a little concerned that we perhaps did not get the benefits of co-locating the shows [in 2008],” said Mr Smith-Bodden. “Our traditional wood audience turned up but there was not the crossover between the two exhibitions.
“We also have to keep some eye on our furniture audience. We feel that aspect might suffer if it was seen as a building show.”
He said it had been difficult to establish a physical link between the two shows in 2008 due to the reduced size of Interbuild, while changes at the construction show’s owner EMAP also made co-ordination more difficult.
W10 will take place on October 3-6, 2010, two weeks before Interbuild, with Mr Smith-Bodden confident the show is well placed next year as the UK economy recovers.
Homag is planning a “significant presence” at W10, describing the 2008 event as exceeding the company’s expectations.
SCM also confirmed its participation at W10, pointing to positive results obtained at W8.
W10 bookings from Woodworking Machinery Suppliers Association members will be invited in the autumn, with sales opening to non-members at the start of 2010.
