W Howard has upgraded production in its Primer Mould MDF mouldings business by installing a Weinig Powermat 500 to make specialised profiles.

The Manchester-based company has also bought a Weinig Isel CPM 4030 template maker and a line of sanding, painting, drying and denibbing equipment in a total investment worth more than £100,000.

The Powermat, installed on Howard’s third production line, means the company can double the output of smaller specialised jobs, easing pressure on other lines and giving greater ability to make longer production runs.

The machine was specified with PowerLock OptiControl tooling systems to speed up tool changes, improve finishing and enable monitoring and resetting to be carried out remotely via PC.

Other recent improvements have included the building of a second warehouse, re-racking of an exisiting warehouse to accommodate the company’s split pack business and upgrading the delivery fleet.
