MDF profile manufacturer W Howard Ltd has installed new Ohra racking in its original warehouse to create individual handpicking bays for the supply of split packs.

The move, which also includes the provision of a guided rail system for use by multi-directional fork lift trucks, cost about £70,000 and follows an earlier £500,000 investment in a second 15,000ft2 warehouse, racking and forklifts.

Manchester-based W Howard, which supplies the Primer Mould brand to merchants, will use the Ohra racking for handpicking of its 100-plus stock products and for smaller split pack orders.

The company says the improved handpicking facilities will ensure stock orders are ready 24-48 hours prior to collection, or available to meet its five working day delivery promise. Bays dedicated to completed customer orders will also speed up picking, entry and exit of vehicles making collections.

W Howard’s next phase is to upgrade production by commissioning a Weinig Powermat 500.
