Hexion-Shchekinoazot is a partnership between Hexion Speciality Chemicals and OAO Shchekinoazot, a Russian industrial chemicals producer, that will be based in the Tula region of Russia, due to its proximity to key central European markets, and will manufacture resins for use in plywood, MDF, particleboard and mineral wool insulation.
“Successful realisation of our project will enable us to provide customers with the highest quality products produced according to all environmental and safety requirements,” said OAO Shchekinoazot president Boris Sokol.
Jospeh Bevilaqua, president of Hexion’s Phenolic and Forest Products Division, added to Mr Sokol’s comments, saying: “Establishment of the joint venture company is part of our ongoing strategy of providing advanced technology to customers in key markets around the world.”
Production is due to start at the end of this year, with phenol formaldehyde resins the first off the line, followed by urea formaldehyde resins and other thermoset formaldehyde derivatives.
