Woodwaste recycling company Urban Forest is now operating a Liebherr high lift wheeled loading shovel to carry out materials handling tasks on site.

Urban Forest, which opened a £4m facility at Newry earlier this year, bought the Liebherr L 538P2plus1 High Lift vehicle for handling and stockpiling incoming waste, loading high-sided bulkers with woodfibre and woodchips, as well as feeding a shredder.

The company said the time taken to complete bulker loading has been cut from 45 minutes to 15 minutes per vehicle compared with the telehandler previously used for the task.

The Liebherrr is an articulated, hydrostatic drive machine, powered by a 105kW diesel engine and having a tipping load of about eight tonnes.
