Warrington-based Unit Pallets Ltd has invested around £500,000 in the installation of two BES Bollmann kilns, each with a capacity to kiln dry and/or heat treat 2,500 pallets.

Unit Pallets sales and marketing manager Mike Collopy said: “This latest development gives Unit Pallets a total of five kilns, which enables us to dry and/or heat treat all our new pallet production of more than 40,000 pallets a week.

“The latest BES Bollmann technology is giving us improved cycle time which is critical as we gear up for the anticipated increase in demand for ISPM15 compliant panels.

“Customers are increasingly aware that they must have pallets that are marked as heat treated in order to export their goods ouside the EU, as ISPM15 regulations are adopted worldwide.

“With the EU adopting in March 2005 and the US in September 2005, all companies involved in moving goods outside the EU must plan now to source wooden pallets that meet the ISPM15 phytosanitary standard.”
