Unbelievably, another 12 months have passed and the 2007 TTJ Awards luncheon is upon us in the coming days. Once again the Weinig Group is the honoured sponsor of the Gold Award, and this year’s event promises to be exceptional, at the excellent new venue of the Park Lane Hotel, and with more than 420 delegates in attendance – some 30% more than in 2006.

This year’s Awards host and guest speaker Lord Sebastian Coe is bound to make the event even more special. One of the UK’s greatest athletes, a world and Olympic champion middle distance runner and world record holder, later a politician and now a successful businessman and one of the central figures in helping the London bid for the 2012 Olympic Games emerge victorious; I’m sure his speech will make fascinating listening.

Creating another interesting sporting connection, we at Weinig UK are also very privileged to have in attendance at the Awards Dr Thomas Bach, the chairman of our advisory board. Dr Bach is also at present vice-president of the International Olympics Committee and a former Olympic champion himself, competing in foil fencing at the 1976 Montreal Games.

So this year’s event promises to help cement the TTJ Awards in its position as one of the most important dates of the timber trade calendar. Besides being renowned for the calibre of its host and guest speaker, the event represents an opportunity to recognise excellence in service and exceptional achievement in a variety of key business areas.

It has also, of course, become a valuable opportunity to meet old acquaintances and hopefully many potential new business contacts and associates. They say you shouldn’t mix business and pleasure, but at the TTJ Awards you can!

So, finally, as 2007 Gold Sponsor I’d like to wish good luck to all those shortlisted companies and individuals up for a TTJ Award – and to all those attending the presentations next week, an interesting, rewarding and enjoyable day.
