The Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society‘s National Golf Day, sponsored by Taylor Maxwell Timber Ltd and held at Marriott Worsley Park on Friday July 8, was a great success. Having the good fortune of perfect weather, 60 golfers played 18 holes singles stableford in the morning and 18 holes greensomes after lunch. In the evening there was a celebration dinner and prize-giving, with the 19 trophies presented by Taylor Maxwell managing director Bob Haydock and TTBS president Barbara Cartwright.
Thanks to the efforts and generosity of many firms connected to the timber trade the event is expected to raise around £13,000 for the TTBS.
In addition, a raffle at the dinner raised £740 and an auction of three items donated by Taylor Maxwell – two tickets to Manchester United v Liverpool and two tickets to Manchester United v Arsenal matches plus a round of golf at Wentworth – realised another £1,165 thanks to persuasive auctioneer and TTBS trustee Barry Lewis.
Malcolm Job, TTBS general manager and organiser of the event, said: “The TTBS is deeply grateful for the support received from the trade for our National Golf Day, which has become our largest fund-raising event. Bob Haydock and the team at Taylor Maxwell have done a magnificent job as our main sponsor and we would also like to thank all those who helped with hole sponsorships and donations, especially Euroblock, Kronospan, Merton Timber, Martinson TRA AB, Osmose, Timber Marketing Corporation, Grainger Sawmills and Premier Forest Products for their Silver sponsorship.”
Planning for next year’s event has begun and Mr Job would welcome enquiries regarding sponsorship for future years. He can be contacted at TTBS, 31 Chelthorn Way, Solihull B91 3FW. Tel: 0121 705 5686; fax: 0121 705 5802; e-mail: golf@ttbs.org.uk
