The 2010 TTBS National Golf Day, sponsored by Premier Forest Products, took place in perfect weather at St Pierre Chepstow on Friday July 9. After playing just 27 holes in 2009, this year the tournament reverted to what has become the traditional 36 holes, with 18 holes singles in the morning and 18 holes greensomes in the afternoon. The first players set off at 7.30am and the last group returned to the clubhouse around 6.30pm.

This year the TTBS was very pleasantly surprised at the number of golfers who wished to take part and it had to increase the number of places from the usual maximum of 72 to 88 at one time, with a further seven on a waiting list. Eventually, with players unfortunately having to drop out, 83 players competed for the singles competition and 84 in the greensomes.

The dinner and prize-giving in the evening was attended by more than 90 guests. A first this year was Jean Garrick who beat all the other seniors to win the Veterans’ Trophy.

Thanks to the great effort put in by Paul Ford and everyone at Premier Forest Products the event raised more than £6,180, including £1,400 from the very well supported raffle and auction in the evening. For this Barbara and Ian Cartwright donated signed memorabilia from golfer Lee Westwood for the auction prize.

In addition to main sponsor Premier Forest Products, many firms helped raise money for the TTBS by sponsoring individual holes as well as the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin competitions. Notable amongst the sponsors were Balcas and Sainty Bancom who were most generous in their support.

This is the last year that Malcolm and Judy Job will officiate at the golf day as in June 2011 Malcolm will be retiring after 13 years as general manager of TTBS. They will, however, be involved in the preparations for the July 2011 event. Full details of next year’s Golf Day will be announced later.
