Travis Perkins (TP) is buying nearly 400 trucks and other materials handling equipment in a £5m deal with Briggs Equipment.

Under the flexible hire contract Briggs is supplying a range of counterbalance and reach trucks, as well as low-level order pickers and other smaller handling products.

It will also replace 250 TP trucks with the latest vehicles from Brigg’s partner – Yale Materials Handling.

Briggs recommended TP move from LPG 2.5-tonne trucks to electric 2-tonne machines to help reduce fuel costs and improve efficiency. More trucks are being converted from LPG to electric power.

The contract also sees a partnership with a leading battery producer to supply innovative batteries and chargers which Briggs said were more than 30% more efficient than traditional battery-charging systems.

Yale trucks operate at eight of TP’s distribution centres, with the majority at the central Northampton facility.

Briggs has supplied equipment to TP for the past 14 years.
