Laminate flooring has scored highly in an ecological study of various floorcoverings conducted by BASF.

Laminates achieved good results in three of four tests in the “Eco-Efficiency” study, produced in partnership with the European Producers of Laminate Flooring (EPLF).

Carpeting and laminates scored the highest in an energy balance test, which records total energy consumed in the production of flooring, installation, cleaning, effects of heating and disposal.

Parquet and laminate flooring were the best perfomers in an assessment measuring natural resources consumption due to wood’s renewable and sustainable nature.

Laminates were judged best for recycling effectiveness due to low emission levels in production and good re-usability.

BASF is producing new software for EPLF member companies called the Eco-Efficiency Manager, which will help them review the ecological profile of their products and contribute to a more sustainable future for the market in Europe.
