Tony Churchman, joint managing director of Morrells Woodfinishes, has retired after 39 years with the company.

Mr Churchman joined Morrells in 1964 and worked in many positions within the company before moving to the Welwyn Garden City site six years ago to become joint managing director after the retirement of Joe Morrell. During his career, said the company, he made a significant contribution to its technical development as well as being a key player in the introduction of standards such as BS 5750, ISO 9001 and Fira Club Green.

He was also instrumental in the introduction of a separate R&D function at Morrells.

In his retirement Mr Churchman plans to spend more time tending to his allotment, which recently won the Allotment of the Year award for Royston.
