On a very windy Friday July 6, 62 golfers gathered at Five Lakes Golf and Country Club near Tiptree in Essex to compete in the TTBS National Golf Competition, sponsored by Medite. The usual format of 18 holes singles Stableford was played in the morning on the Lakes course, with the afternoon 18 holes of Greensomes being played on the Links course.

The strong wind made it quite a challenge for many of the golfers but fortunately there was no sign of the rain that affected many other parts of the country that day. We were pleased to welcome some new faces this year, together with many old friends. Medite as main sponsors did a magnificent job in recruiting gold sponsors Dynea and silver sponsors Sasol, together with 36 hole sponsors for the event.

In the evening, after an excellent dinner, most of the 22 trophies and prizes were presented by TTBS national president Richard Bagnall and Coillte Panel Products marketing and business development director Geoff Rhodes. The Yorkshire trophy was presented later at the TTBS offices.

A raffle was held which included some magnificent Waterford Crystal and raised well over £1,000. The event is expected to raise £7,500 for the society’s work.

The list of trophy winners is shown alongside but special mention must go to Chris Atkins for a magnificent hole-in-one on the Links course during the afternoon. We all enjoyed his hospitality in the bar that evening. Chris was presented with a bottle of Champagne by Medite to mark the occasion.

TTBS is indebted to all those who support this important fund-raising event and the provision of this article by TTJ is very much appreciated.

Look out for the details of next year’s event in the TTBS pinboard in TTJ.
