Situated in Hall 5, the Timber Zone houses a wide range of companies with one thing in common – wood.

Timber and timber-related businesses from all over the world will be on display. Countries represented include Brazil, Norway, Spain, Wales, Guyana, the US and Austria.

As a launch pad for innovation, the Timber Zone has developed a strong reputation for showcasing product development, material developments and new thinking – and this year’s show will be no exception.

The UK Timber Frame Association (UKTFA), for example, will be launching a new report to promote timber frame construction, its low carbon credentials and its cost and efficiency benefits for developers and specifiers facing the effects of the credit crunch.

There are also plenty of first-timers to this year’s show. Big names like Arnold Laver and Snows Timber will be making their debuts, alongside ‘old favourites’ such as Glenalmond Timber, Timbermark and Steico.

German company Pollmeier, one of the market leaders in European beech, will be making its debut to promote the benefits of a versatile species that can be used for anything from flooring to children’s toys. ‘Our aim is not to sell timber – our aim is to promote one of the world’s most interesting hardwood species,’ said company spokesman Lars Schmidt.

Also on show for the first time will be the Unidek Condor Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPs) in the Offsite Solutions Zone, Hall 5, on stand L165.

The launch of Unidek UK follows a detailed four-year roofing SIPs analysis for the UK construction industry by system originator Unidek Bv, during which it has partnered with Springvale, its sister company within CRH Insulation Europe, in the completion of several roofing projects.

Another newcomer is Germany’s largest producer of softwood products, Klausner Group, which specialises in standard products for structural purposes such as CLS/SLS and carcassing, rough sawn as well as surfaced, visually strength-graded and certified to PEFC standards.
