Welsh sawmiller Teifi Timber Products Ltd has invested in a dual purpose timber treatment plant which uses Osmose‘s arsenic-free Naturewood preservative.

The plant, a “major” investment for the Carmarthenshire-based business, has been designed by Osmose’s engineering specialists and offers Naturewood preserved timber in either green or brown.

Teifi managing director Gerwyn Thomas said the plant was part of the company’s strategy for the future, especially with European Union domestic restrictions in the use of CCA preservatives due to come into force during 2004.

The plant, controlled by the Osmose worknet software package, is 12m long and 1.8m wide. Its built-in hydraulic tilt system helps ensure treated products emerge dry.

The pre-programmed treatment cycles optimise the efficiency and treatment to hazard class retentions, especially critical in the treatment of hazard class four material.

Teifi, a sawmiller since 1968, is a major supplier of British home-grown timber and pallets, as well as post and rail fencing, planed timber, round fencing, wood bark, wood chips, sawdust and timber sawn to specification.
