Bedfordshire-based DW Mouldings Ltd has just completed its second large investment in two years – with a £600,000 spend on its moulder facilities.

The investment saw the installation of a new Weinig Powermat 1000 moulder, PowerLock tooling, an additional Rondamat 960 grinder and an upgrade of the existing extraction system.

Two years ago DW Mouldings installed a fully computerised Unimat 3000 Brilliant profile centre which replaced three conventional moulders.

The investment included the installation of up-to-date toolroom facilities and the success of the new technology led the company to continue using automated techniques where possible – resulting in the purchase of the Powermat 1000.

Director David Howard said: “The Powermat 1000 has replaced two conventional moulders. The key reason for ordering it is to increase versatility in production by its 300mm-wide surface table and its 360o universal tool holder.

“It is a fast throughput machine, operating at 12,000rpm and it is quick to set up with its PowerLock tooling and motorised axes.

“It is highly efficient – minimising labour, yet maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and surface finish.”

Mr Howard said the saving in labour was an important factor as the acute shortage of labour locally meant existing trained operators could be retained for other work.
