On July 4 a near capacity field of 68 players from all parts of the country gathered at Breadsall Priory in Derbyshire for the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society (TTBS) annual National Golf Day.

This year the event was sponsored by furniture component and accessory manufacturer East Coast Fittings, whose chairman, Derek Goodman, was celebrating 25 years of playing in the tournament.

By sheer good fortune the TTBS managed to pick the only fine day in the middle of a period of very inclement weather and the sun shone with a light breeze and pleasant temperatures.

The singles competition was played in the morning on the Priory course which is a rather hilly course with very fast greens. In the afternoon Greensomes competition the less arduous Moorlands course was played. Throughout the day the players were looked after by the very competent Marriott Breadsall Priory staff. On the golfing staff special mention should be made of the help received from Mick Hornsey, who helped make it one of the best TTBS golf days for many years.
