A Huntingdon joinery business has added a vertical panel saw to its stable of production machinery to get round a shortage of space.

Bell Frampton Joinery Ltd, set up a year ago by director David Darlow, said there was not enough room for a beam saw at the 5,500ft2 workshop, so he opted for a Striebig Control vertical panel saw. It is being used to make products for the pub and leisure industries, as well as retail shopfitting equipment and items for house builders.

Veneered and MDF panels 6mm thick are being cut four or five at a time. Solid ash 45m thick is also being sawn for bar tops.

Features of the Control include a digital measuring system, a fully-automatic roller locking function, an auxiliary stop section, three additional stops for repeat cuts, a TRK dust and chips extraction system and an infinitely variable feed speed. The model supplied to Bell Frampton by TM Machinery Sales Ltd has an optional scribing blade for preventing chipping out when cutting laminated panels.

Prices for Striebig vertical panel saws range from £7,500-25,000.
