Vertical panel saw manufacturer Striebig AG is investing £6.7m (€9.7m) in a new production unit to deliver substantially increased output.
The planned 1,500m2 building at the company’s Littau plant in Switzerland is also intended to address the lack of space on the site.
The building design, featuring a series of external vertical wooden beams, was chosen to reflect Striebig’s machines and the activities of its customers. It also demonstrates the versatility of wood as a construction material.
Marcel Brunner, Striebig managing director, said the company experienced a 20% sales growth in 2004 despite a general sluggishness in the woodworking equipment market. He expressed confidence of continuing sales increases during 2005.
