A Homag edgebander has been added to kitchen manufacturer Stoneham plc’s production line for the application of solid timber lippings and PVC coiled edging.
The machine is the latest in a long line of investments at Kent-based Stoneham over recent years, costing more than £1m in total. The Sidcup company, which holds the Royal Warrant to the Queen, is investing to react to shorter lead times and an increasingly diverse design portfolio.
The Homag KL77/A20/S2 single-sided edgbander can apply up to 3mm thick PVC edging and solid timber lippings up to 20mm in thickness.
Stoneham chose the machine because of its fast changeover times, with the ability to swap between edging programs without opening the hood. This is achieved by a FK13 eight-position tool changer and auto adjustment of the infeed fence, pressure zone, end trim units and top pressure beam.
The edgebander, which cost about £110,000, is also fitted with a six-fold coil magazine to accommodate continuous running with different edging types and colours.
