Tool hire chain Speedy Hire has launched a comprehensive campaign to communicate the recently-introduced Work At Height regulations.

The company developed the “Safety From The Ground Up” initiative after months of research to understand the implications of the legislation to customers. It found major companies, subcontractors and industry bodies were aware of the changes but communication at site level was needed.

The campaign is aimed at all Speedy customers from construction to utilities, to retail and the public sector. More than 700 of the company’s depot managers and sales representatives were trained prior to the launch.

Speedy has developed posters, booklets, pocket guides, CDs, tool box presenters, stickers and other aids to building awareness. A hotline has also been set up on 0845 606 6886.

Phil Prince, the company’s group head of marketing, said: “Annually over 4,000 people are injured from people falling at height, and we want to demonstrate to the tool hire industry that education is of paramount importance in helping customers comply with the regulations.”

Speedy has invested more than £1m expanding its range of equipment to provide work at height solutions, including extension tools, aluminium towers and fall arrest systems.
