The £20,000 machine, which is being used to manufacture sash windows, moulded doors and windows and products with stained glass inlays, allows raw materials to make one pass through a single machine where previously it would have required four or more passes.

Managing director Phil Martindale said that this had “created massive efficiencies” and had helped the company to automate a large portion of its work.

“This means a huge part of our woodworking production is now 100% automated when it was previously 100% manual,” he said. “We have created massive efficiencies and are able to push through far more wood preparation and production volumes at a much faster pace.”

Martindales said that the introduction of the Smartmac machine has come at a time when demand for timber windows and doors has significantly increased and that the sector is set to continue to boom.
