Visitors to the Akzo Nobel Sikkens stand were able to see a window constructed from Accoya modified timber for the first time.

Interbuild provided the venue for the signing of formal agreements between BSW Timber and Titan Wood, the company which developed the Accoya technology. A further alliance between BSW and finishes manufacturer Sikkens has resulted in a wood substrate which can achieve new levels of performance and warranty for decay resistance and coating life.

Both BSW and Sikkens were first-time exhibitors at Interbuild and found that “selling the integrated approach” paid dividends.

“The Accoya name has attracted attention and we’ve been able to sell its benefits on the stand,” said John Alexander, BSW Timber’s head of business development.

“We’ve spoken to some joinery and conservatory manufacturers about setting up trials,” added Sikkens’s business development manager Geoff Taylor. “We’ve been very impressed with the level of interest from joiners.”

As well as the Accoya window, manufactured by Hull-based Wright Joinery, the Sikkens stand featured windows manufactured by

members of its Sentinel Plus wood protection programme, including Carey & Fox, Clearwood Joinery, Boyland Joinery, George Barnsdale, Whitaker & Co and Magnet. Cladding by Vincent Timber also featured on the stand.
