Green larch and Douglas fir from Devon was used in the open-sided structure that housed the Biodiversity Pavilion.

A collaboration between construction company EmanualHendry, designer Cameron Scott of Timber Frame Design and Gilkicker Ltd, the Blau shelter is designed for fast construction and flexible use.

“We’ve had a tremendous response from the education sector as it’s the size of a single class unit,” said Andy Pack of Gilkicker.

The components of the 8.4×5.4m structure are brought to site ready for assembly and the building is erected – using traditional wooden pegs. The rafters and purlins are hooked on and the building’s curved roof is finished with either polycarbonate Fastlock, or a living roof. The whole process takes two days.

All structures are certified by a structural engineer and Mr Pack said the company can take customers through from planning to completion.
